A Blessed Pentecost Sunday

Happy Birthday!  I learned in second grade - so I know it has to be true — thatPentecost is the “birthday of the Church;”  This is the day Jesus sent the Holy Spirit upon the disciples and His mother, giving them the courage, wisdom, and zeal to carry out the last command He had given them nine days earlier when He had ascended into heaven; “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations.  Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Mt. 28: 19) The work of the Church began.
You and I are the grateful heirs.  We prize belonging to the Church.  Our Catholic faith is that “pearl of great price,” to which we cling, passed on to us; often at the cost of great sacrifice, by our parents and grandparents.  This great Catholic landscape of New York is spiced with churches, parishes, and communities founded by our great-grandparents who came to this country poor in the eyes of the world, but rich in the eyes of faith.  They brought with them the treasure of their Catholic faith.  Along with family; their Church was of supreme importance.
On her deathbed in 1821, our first native-born American saint, a native New Yorker, Elizabeth Ann Seton, whispered last words to her sisters: “Be daughters of the Church”  On this Pentecost Sunday, I shout out to all of you, “Be sons and daughters of the Church
My file of “favorite quotes from Blessed John Paul II” is a thick-one, but at the top is this one-  “Love for Jesus and His Church must be the passion of our lives;”
We Catholics passionately love our Church.  Like our family; we are “born into it” at baptism, like a mother, our Church strengthens us in Confirmation, forgives us in Reconciliation, feeds us in the Eucharist, consoles us with the Anointing of the Sick, and gives us away in Matrimony or Holy Orders.  Like our family, our Church is there at birth, maturity, sickness, and death.  Like a family, we might quarrel at times and complain about one another, but, like a family, we rarely leave, can always return, and carry our family name, traits; and pride forever.  The Church is our spiritual family.
Many people spend a lot of time asking, “What is the Church?”  Before long; they discover that the answer can only be found if they re-word the question: “Who is the Church?”  Because, simply put, as St. Paul teaches, the Church is Christ, a lesson he learned on the road to Damascus, when the Lord told him that, in persecuting the Church, Paul was in fact persecuting Jesus Himself. (Acts 9: 4-5)
When I was a new priest, my first pastor, Monsignor Cornelius Flavin, had a great reputation for winning converts.  He started every set of instructions with three simple definitions: a theist is one who believes in God; a Christian is a theist who believes Jesus Christ is God; a Catholic is a Christian who believes that the Churchis Jesus Christ.
That is a crucial lesson for today.  Ronald Rolheiser observes that people today want “Christ without the Church, a King without His Kingdom”.  We as Catholics say, sorry, but you cannot split them.  Jesus remains alive, powerful, accessible, and active in His Church!  The Church is Christ.    As the French theologian de Lubac asked; “For what could I know of Him [Jesus] without her [the Church]”?
Now, let’s face it, at times it can be very difficult to love the Church.  Again, theChurch is like our family.  At times it is hard to love our family, as we recall hurts, dysfunction, and sad episodes.  The Church is Christ, and since Christ was true God and true man, the Church is divine and human, too.  In her divine order, she is beautiful; holy, spotless; on the human side, she can be sinful, ugly, and clumsy.  That’s because her members are, that’s because I am; that’s because you are.
A few years back, a couple wrote me a letter tearing the Church apart.  They concluded, “We’re going to leave the Catholic Church and find a perfect one”.  “Good luck,” I replied.  “But, if you find one, don’t join it; because then it won’t be perfect anymore.”
Listen to what Pope John Paul II spoke to a million young people at a World Youth Day:
I should like to ask you, dear young people, a favor:  be patient with the Church!  The Church is always a community of weak and imperfect individuals.  God has placed His work of salvation, His plans and His desires, in human hands.  This is a great risk, but there is no other Church than the one founded by Christ.  He wants us to be His collaborators in the world and in the Church, with all our deficiencies and shortcomings.
Flannery O’Connor, the renowned southern writer, who loved and cherished her Catholic faith, knew the imperfection of the Church.  “It’s not so much suffering for the Church that I mind,” she commented, “but suffering from it!”  She was right: there is a lot in our Church that tempts us to give up, to get cynical, to leave.  Jesus asks us, as He asked His apostles when people abandoned Him, “Are you going to leave me, too.”  With St. Peter all speak up, “Lord, to whom shall we go?  You alone” — and; we add, Your Church — “have the words of everlasting life.”
We love the Church, warts and all.  We stick with her.  We pass on the faith to our children.  We fight the “choice” fallacy that holds up the pagan gods of privacy, convenience, and freedom, with its chant of “leave me alone”.  The Church is at odds with this contemporary pantheon.  Listen again to Father Rolheiser:
What we must challenge is the pathological individualism and excessive sense of privacy within culture.  Especially must we challenge the fallacy; as omni-present as the air we breath, that our lives are all our own, that we owe nothing to anyone besides ourselves, and that we can buy into family, neighborhood, andChurch how and when we like it.
We are Catholics, we belong to the Church, at the core of our being.  We did not choose Jesus and His Church; they chose us.  And we are eternally grateful they did.
Our faith, our Church, goes back to Jesus, His Mother, His Apostles, His Spirit unleashed at Pentecost. It is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.
“Love for Jesus and His Church must be the passion of our lives”!
A blessed Pentecost!  Happy Birthday!

Key Dungeon Siege - 3

The release date for Dungeon Siege 3 (III) will soon be upon us, so we hope that you have enjoyed our coverage of all what has been going on in its build up? Back in February we gave you an update as to when the game was going to be released; then we offered 40 new screenshotsand finally we informed you that the playable demo was being made available at the end of May. Now we thought that you would like to learn of a few key facts to wet your appetite.
Things got off to a bad start for the game due to developer confusion, instead settling for Obsidian Games. Alex Lucard from Diehard GameFAN has decided to offer his ten thoughts, and for the most part he seems a little unimpressed. The first gripe is with the default setup, now we know that developers will never be able to please all gamers -- it’s not as if it takes long to change.
His second issue is due to the fact that Dungeon Siege III is very similar to a host of other RPG games on the market, but only the best ones of course. His third problem with the game is the lack of customization, he feels as though this lets the game down in a big way when there are other games that offer so much more.
However; it is not all bad though; as Lucard loved the story and how it draws you in. Another good point is a feature called “bread crumbs", which allows you to find your way back and not get lost. The sidekick is key to this new version of the game, just as it has been in the past. Just remember; influence them well throughout the game, as this makes a huge difference.
It is too early to tell if Dungeon Siege III will be a winner or not, that is all down to you.

Today's a historic day, as Duke Nukem Forever finally explodes onto the scene some 15 years after its predecessor

Duke Nukem Forever is Out (Outside the US, Anyway)
The Steam splash page you thought you'd never see.

It is once again time to kick ass and chew bubblegum just as your supplies of said gum have been depleted. Duke Nukem Forever has finally released in non-US territories; kicking off with a midnight launch and a big party in the UK..
"June 10 in the UK will forever be celebrated as the day that the legendary Duke Nukem Forever went from video game folklore to Earth shattering reality"; said Christoph Hartmann, president of publisher 2K. 'For 15 years fans have waited in limbo just yearning to hear those two little lovely words strung together; Now Available. Today, the acronym 'DNF' changes its meaning to a 'Day to Never Forget.' I am proud to announce that the wait is finally over and that Duke Nukem Forever is truly Now Available'.
Whatever your feelings on the new Duke demo following recent showing at PAX and the demo, this is a historic moment for the games industry - the world's most notorious piece of vaporware has finally made it to release.
Duke is out next Tuesday (June 14) in the United States and, unsurprisingly; carries an M rating. Amusingly; though, the notoriously prudish Australian ratings board has allowed the game to be released uncut with an MA15+ rating.

Badrinath Review – Allu Arjun Movie

Badrinath Review – Allu Arjun Movie
Listen Review:

Badrinath Movie Review – Badrinath Review – Badrinath Rating, talk, Telugu Movie Review: Allu Arjun's latest movie badrinath raised so many expectations due to its package and publicity. The film looked like a blockbuster written all over it. Even the makers confidence suggested the same. With aggressive publicity Badrinath is surrounded by huge hype and the expectations continued to scale new heights by the day. So, is it up to the expectations? Did it live up to the hype? Let's uncover Badrinath review...

Story:

Badri (Allu Arjun) is one of the disciples of Bheeshma (Prakash Raj), who is a guru of ancient martial arts. Badrinath grows up into a strong fighter under Bheeshma's rigorous training. He will be appointed as the 'kshetra palakudu' (protector) of Badrinath temple. Alakananda (Tamanna), an atheist comes to Badrinath along with her grandfather. Badri learns that she is in big trouble due to Sarkar (Kelly Dorjee). Alakananda slowly realizes the greatness of Badrinath and turns a devotee. She also falls for Badri who doesn't reciprocate to her love. Bheeshma decides to make Badri his successor by handing over the responsibility of Takshasila. For that Badri has to remain bachelor forever. Not aware of his guru's decision and Alakananda's real feelings towards him Badri gives her a word that he will help her to visit Barinath temple again as she has to do that to make her wish come true. Alakananda prays Lord Badrinath to help her succeed in her love. Bheeshma takes a word from Badrinath that he would take up his duties as a true successor to him. So who wins? How does Badrinath overcomes this contrasting situation?

Analysis:

Badrinath starts on a bright note. The introduction of temples and the visuals are splendid. But immediately it takes a predictable path with some poorly etched characters and scenes. You will hardly find Badrinath being troubled in the training. The training process looks just ordinary. The confrontation between hero and heroine is regular. Nothing new or interesting. The film moves on with a silly flashback episode revealing the troubles of heroine. From then on the movie moves on with a sole reason, that is to find the interval point.

In between there is a fight where Badri goes and kills tens of terrorists with his sword. He simply evades all the bullets with a swing of his sword. It is over the top action which would not be liked by the die hard fans even. Interval episode is too predictable and the action episode goes on for ages during that period. Second half starts on a dull note with hardly any engaging scenes. Song after song follows with a heavily censored fight sequence in between. The film heads to climax with literally nothing happening post interval. Climax is a big let down.

This film is set in current era and that is the biggest logical error as you wouldn't find security and police around Badrinath temple. Even when hundreds of people gets killed there is no sign of police anywhere. The hero goes on a killing rampage in a railway station and the director doesn't care of bringing cops into the scene. Right from the concept of keeping the protagonist as protector to Badrinath temple, this film lacks logic in everything. So called commercial elements didn't work due to weak script.

This film doesn't have any comparisons with Magadheera as the public believed but it has stark resemblance to Shakti movie starring NTR. Like that this film too falls flat on most aspects except for grandeur and a couple of songs.

Performances:

Allu Arjun does the same and speaks like he does in every film despite his awkward costumes and hairstyle. He didn't try to get into the skin of the character as it is no different from his usual roles. His dances are the highlight and probably the only selling factor for this film. Tamanna liberally showed off her skin and helped her part to up the masala dose. Prakash Raj is Okay but his makeup is pretty bad. Kelly Dorjee is wasted and the woman who played his wife is over the top all the time. The man who played their son is a miscast. Raghubabu is regular and repeating Indra's comedy track with Brahmanandam didn't work. Rao Ramesh, Tanikella Bharani didn't have much scope.

Tehnicalities:

Keeravani's songs lack freshness but are good on screen. Thanks to electrifying dances of Allu Arjun. Background score is good but Keeravani failed to recreate his Magadheera magic. Cinematography is good. The visuals of Badrinath stays with you. Art work is fine in parts. Editing is Okay. Story and screenplay written by Chinni Krishna lacks the punch and freshness. Dialogues are mediocre. Action part is another minus as all the fights looked artificial. Production values are good.

VV Vinayak disappoints big time and one cannot completely put blame on him. The problem is with the lackluster script. He couldn't do much with it. He failed in incorporating commercial ingredients too.

Plus Points:

- Badrinath backdrop
- Allu Arjun dances
- Tamanna's glamor
- Few songs

Minus points:

- Story and screenplay
- Over the top action
- Lack of entertainment
- Weak second hour and poor climax

Final Word: Badrinath – This film does justice to the first three letters in its title.

Box office predictions:

Badrinath lets the audience down who go to the movie expecting a magnum opus. Even if you are in for a regular commercial potboiler it fells short of expectations. It may survive in mass centers due to the never ending fights and mass frenzy songs. It needs a miracle to be a break even at the box office.
