Spelling Bee Names 14-Year-Old Champ
Putting most adults to shame, 14-year-old Sukanya Roy won the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday by correctly spelling “cymotrichous,” which means having wavy hair. Roy, who hails from Pennsylvania, takes the title as well as $40,000 in cash and prizes. She is the fourth Indian-American to win the prize in as many years. Laura Newcombe, 12, from Toronto, took second place.
